Poster: Palantír - Distributed Awareness in Configuration Management

    Student: Anita Sarma

    Advisor: André van der Hoek

Abstract: Palantír is a system that aims to improve the collaborative capabilities of distributed CM systems. Specifically, Palantír is based on the observation that it is not only pertinent for developers to have an idea of their own set of changes, but to also be continuously informed about the changes being made concurrently by other developers that may conflict with those changes. To do so, Palantír provides each developer with a graphical display that shows the set of artifacts they are modifying and includes pair-wise workspace comparisons that highlight conflicts with other developers. A critical aspect is that Palantír not only shows which artifacts are changing, but also indicates the severity and impact of the modifications being made in parallel by other developers.
