Panel: Event-based systems and Software Architectures:
Out of the Shadows and into the Mainstream

Abstract: The notions of software architecture and of event-based applications have been around the research community for many years. While there have been sporadic uses of the ideas in commercial practice, only recently have the notions gained significant traction. This panel will explore some of the key attractions, and remaining problems, in exploiting the research results in contexts ranging from Web services to Mars exploration. Buzzwords: pub-sub, SOAP, XML, ADLs, protocols.
