Panel: Recent Advances in Distributed Software Applications
Abstract: This panel will present and discuss emerging concepts,
techniques, and tools that support the development, deployment, and use
of distributed software system applications. Results are drawn from both
academic and industrial research investigations that audience members
can compare and explore through questions and answers with the Panelists.
Four panelists have been invited to briefly introduce their research studies.
Faculty associates from the UCI Institute for Software Research, Professor
E. James Whitehead and Professor Scott Samuelson, will provide a view
from academia, while Greg Bolcer from Endeavors Inc. and Greg Johnson
from Concept Shopping, Inc. will discuss their efforts targeted at commercial
and industrial applications. Topics and application areas to be covered
included the distributed authoring and versioning (the WebDAV protocol),
advanced power and energy management, peer-to-peer collaboration mechanisms
and capabilities, and others.
