Knowledge-Based Architecture Adaptation Management

Poster and Demonstration

Student: John Georgas

Advisor: Richard N. Taylor

Abstract: Architecture-based self-adaptive software is software that modifies its own architecture in response to either faults or changes in its deployment environment; self-healing behavior is only one aspect of self-adaptation. One of the most important elements in designing self-adaptive software is the mechanism that selects specific adaptation responses and when they need to be applied. This presentation will focus on early efforts in a knowledge-based, expert system approach to designing self-adaptive software systems in the broader context of a supporting architecture-based methodology.

Bio: John Georgas is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of California, Irvine under the supervision of Professor Richard N. Taylor. His research interests include self-adaptive and self-healing software, software architecture representations, architectural styles, and systems of systems modeling. He received his B.S. in computer science from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona and his M.S. in computer science from UCI.
