Augur: Supporting Software Development Visually

Poster

Student: Jon Froehlich

Advisor: Paul Dourish

Abstract: Distributed software development teams struggle with two sources of complexity: the complexity of the source code (the artifact) and the complexity of the activities around that artifact. We've developed a prototype system (Augur) that reveals information about these two sources of complexity together in a shared visual frame.

Our goal is to increase developer understanding of both the source code and its development activity, and, crucially, the relationship between them.

Bio: Jon Froehlich is currently in his final year as a Computer Science M.S. student at the University of California, Irvine. He received his BS degree in Computer Engineering from Iowa State University in 2001. His current research interests include human-computer interaction and ubiquitous computing. Next year, Jon will be a Ph.D. student at the University of Washington, Seattle.
