Lee Martie (A. van der Hoek, advisor) presented his short paper “Toward Social-Technical Code Search” as a poster at the 6th International Workshop on Cooperative and Human Aspects of Software Engineering (CHASE) at ICSE 2013 in San Francisco in May. The paper was co-authored by his advisor, André van der Hoek.

Kristin Roher (D. Richardson, advisor) has been awarded the prestigious NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, which recognizes outstanding graduate students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines, and provides three years of support including a $30,000 annual stipend.  Roher also presented her paper “A Proposed Recommender System for Eliciting Software Sustainability Requirements” at the 2nd Workshop on User Evaluations for Software Engineering Researchers (USER) at ICSE 2013 in May. The paper was co-authored by her advisor Debra Richardson.

Arthur Valadares (C. Lopes, advisor) is interning at Intel, Hillsboro, OR for both Spring and Summer quarters, working on Distributed Scene Graph (DSG), Intel’s architecture for scalable virtual worlds. The goal is to achieve a working architecture for up to 500 concurrent and interacting users in the same virtual environment.

Dakuo Wang (G. Mark, G. Olson, advisors) is spending his summer as an intern at IBM Research China Lab in Beijing where he’ll be doing a user study on social media usage in an organizational setting, and building correlations between a user’s online behavior and their personality traits.

Hitesh Sajnani (C. Lopes, advisor) presented his paper “A Parallel and Efficient Approach to Large Scale Code Clone Detection” at the 7th Int’l Workshop on Software Clones, held at ICSE 2013 in May. The paper was co-authored by his advisor Cristina Lopes. He also visited Tata Research Development and Design Center in Pune, India from Jan 14 to Feb 28. While at TTRDDC, he gave two invited talks: “Latent Dirichilet Allocation and its uses in Software Engineering Tasks” and “A Parallel Approach to Clone Detection using MapReduce.”

Thomas Debeauvais (C. Lopes, advisor) spent his summer as an intern at PARC in Palo Alto, CA where he worked on data mining and business intelligence for World of Warcraft™ data, predicting what motivates people to play, how dedicated people perceive themselves, and differences between Taiwan/China and Europe/US.

Fang Deng (J. Jones, advisor) spent her summer interning at Google ChromeOS in Mountain View, CA where she worked on performance and endurance testing of the Chrome browser.

Bart Knijnenburg (A. Kobsa, advisor), interned this summer at Samsung Information Systems America (SISA) R&D Center in San Jose. The focus of his project was to understand and influence the user’s decision to share their location.  He also presented his paper “Inspectability and Control in Social Recom-menders” at the 6th ACM Conference on Recommender Systems (RecSys 2012), in Dublin, Ireland, in Sept. The paper was co-authored by Svetlin Bostandjiev and John O’Donovan of UC Santa Barbara, and his advisor Prof. Alfred Kobsa

Xinru Page (A. Kobsa, advisor) is the lead Co-Organizer of the Workshop on Measuring Networked Social Privacy, to be held at the 16th ACM Conference on Computer Supported Cooperative Work and Social Computing (CSCW 2013) in February in San Antonio, TX.

Gerald Bortis’s (A. van der Hoek, advisor) paper “PorchLight: A Tag-based Approach to Bug Triaging” has been accepted to the 35th Int’l Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE 2013) to be held in San Francisco, CA in May. The paper is co-authored by his advisor, Prof. André van der Hoek

Alegria Baquero (R. Taylor, advisor) presented her paper “Computational Commerce: a Vision for the Future” at the 13th Int’l Conf. on Electronic Commerce and Web Technologies (EC-Web 2012), in Vienna, Austria in Sept.  The paper is co-authored by her advisor, ISR Director Richard N. Taylor.

Joel Ossher (C. Lopes, advisor) presented his paper “ASTRA: Bottom-up Construction of Structured Artifact Repositories” at the 19th Working Conference on Reverse Engineering, (WCRE 2012) in Kingston, ON, Canada in October.  The paper is co-authored by Ph.D. student Hitesh Sajnani and his advisor Cristina Videira Lopes.
