Centralized scaling
- "Large" web sites now handle ~70M users without
trouble. These are 3rd party usage numbers so should
be only mildly inflated.
- Hard limits on the numbers of humans that can
use a given system. 6 billion max, linear but
slowing growth.
- With factors of
economics (who can pay), language (who can read it),
site preference (who wants to use it), and
usage. This gives us numbers not much larger then the
existing sites handle.
- Meanwhile the computation power, bandwidth, and
storage of the servers is still following Moore's law.
