Abstract | The thorny problem of usability has been recognized in thesecurity community for many years, but has, so far, eludedsystematic solution. We characterize the problem as a gapbetween theoretical and effective levels of security, andconsider the characteristics of the problem. The approach weare taking focuses on visibility – how can we make relevantfeatures of the security context apparent to users, in order toallow them to make informed decisions about their actions andthe potential implications of those actions? |
