Alfonso Fuggetta

Software process research deals with the methods and technologies used to assess, support, and improve software development activities. The field has grown up since the 80s to address the increasing complexity and criticality of software development activities. This talk aims to briefly present the history and achievements of software process research, some critical evaluation of the results produced so far, and possible directions for future work.

A PDF version of the paper is available.Alfonso Fuggetta is a full professor of software engineering at Politecnico di Milano. He is also the deputy director at CEFRIEL, a research insitution established in 1988 by Politecnico di Milano, industries, and public administrations to support technology transfer and advanced education in Information Technology (IT). He is also consulting for several agencies and offices of the Italian government. Fuggetta's interests are in process assessment and improvement, process support, distributed systems and infrastructures, requirements engineering, and economic and organizational issues related to the development, acquisition, and exploitation of IT. Fuggetta has been program cochair of ICSE 97 (International Conference on Software Engineering). He is also associate editor of the ACM Transactions on Software Engineering and Methodology, the journal of Automated Software Engineering, and of Software Process - Improvement and Practice.
