Abstract

The aim of our research is to create a better understanding of the issues that arise when developing software in a global setting. Because developers are not working in a shared physical location, communication about what they are working on is more difficult. This can lead to conflicting situation within a development project. Therefore awareness of other developers' activities must be provided in other ways. World View is a collaboration tool for distributed software development that provides visualizations related to dependencies between development teams across the globe. We are currently using world View to perform an empirical study on data from the IBM Jazz project, particularly focusing on the flow of work items, shared code changes, and dependent code changes.
